So, it's time to get serious about my music career. Previously mentioned, Mike Mason is an aspiring artist manager and my friend, he proposes that he become my artist manager. We agree with a hand shake and the bro-mance continues today. Mason is currently working at an artist management firm and is still pushing away at getting me signed and getting some of my songs sold to established bands, though nothing to date has happened I have the utmost confidence that he will prevail. This month he also pits me to a test of will and courage. Being a songwriter who excels in the "Americana, Folk, Pop, Country" arena, he books me at an all "Hip-Hop and R&B" night. Needless to say this is not my forte nor my normal audience. I went up on stage to a bunch of confused looks with my white skin and acoustic guitar. My first song, entitled "Bear Down" is about being broke, flat broke and having the strength and perseverance to overcome this. Much to my surprise after I was done with the first verse the crowd was cheering and clapping... I ended and people loved it. It was a feeling of accomplishment, like I could do anything and play anywhere... Great feeling.
I also have the opportunity to speak with my old mentor and boss at The Campbell Soup Co., Jeff Bedard, for my leadership portfolio assignment. Jeff has been a mentor to me for the past 5 years and hopefully will always be one in the future.
Below is the presentation that followed our conversation:
