We all as new recruits to the Entertainment Business Masters of Science program were tasked to join a professional student-run organization and beyond that, take a leadership role within the organization. Having been out of school for nearly 3 years, unfamiliar with Full Sail and the offerings of the student organizations I inappropriately joined two separate organizations to see how they panned out. I joined MEISA (Music & Entertainment Industry Student Organization) and GRAMMY U. I was leaning heavily on GRAMMY U. I would later learn not to rely on the merit of the organization to be run professionally or on any regularity. In any regard, I joined both... Let's see how this pans out over the next year...
Meanwhile, in class our Leadership Portfolio assignment was to profile a "leader" in the entertainment industry. My suggestion was chosen - John Hendricks, Founder and Chairman of Discovery Communications, Inc. (The Discovery Channel). Unfortunately, I no longer possess the presentation my partner and I made for Mr. Hendricks however, this first presentation set the tone for the next 12 months of my academic career here at Full Sail. I spent the next 12 months emulating Mr. Hendricks and the business model of DCI and the Discovery Channel. You will see over the next few posts my immersion into the business model, the television industry and global business and affairs.
May the blogging begin!
